Betterman

A reunion with an old friend leads a student into combat with an unknown enemy. Little does he know that only he can stop it.

Strangely mixing horror and comedy, the classic "Betterman" series is a twisted tale that shows the range of anime's emotions.

While standing on the beach, Keita Aono encounters a girl trying to talk to him, but he's unable to hear what she's saying. What he does hear, however, is the alarm clock telling him to wake up and get ready for school.

When he gets there, Keita discovers that his class has a new student, one who looks vaguely familiar. He soon realizes that the new student is the girl from his dream. And she just so happens to be Hinoki, a long lost friend from his childhood.

Keita hopes to talk to her after school, but his plans to reminisce are put on hold until the next day as she quickly disappears into a van and speeds off. Compounding his misery, torrential rain forces him to take cover while on his way home, and he ends up at the entrance to a new amusement park.

It seems like it could be a pleasant diversion when it opens the next day, save for the fact that hundreds of employees have turned up dead. After being greeted by a strange girl warning him to leave, Keita ventures deeper into the park, which can only mean more trouble.

Luckily, he comes across Hinoki at the controls of a giant robot, one immobilized because her co-pilot has run off and disappeared. Jumping aboard, Keita discovers that he possesses the ability to control the robot -- apparently a rare gift.

When they finally meet their match, a mysterious figure called Betterman arrives to save the day. Who is he? They aren't sure, but he, as well as Keita, will be needed by Akamatsu Industries to fight the evil Algernon, a seemingly unstoppable enemy that threatens the whole of mankind.

Betterman Characters:

Hinoki Sai

Hinoki is a very mysterious person in Betterman. Probably the second most mysterious. (I'd say "Betterman" is the most mysterious, but that's just me.) Hinoki is a new student to Komome High School. She is 17, just like Keita. Keita and she were childhood friends, but Hinoki's family moved away when she was only 5. Her parents and brother, Mario, were missing after an expedition into a cave in India. Asami took Hinoki in and giving her the position of pilot of KakuseiJin #1 as "Head Driver 05". She is also a Dual Kind.

Betterman is the "hero" of the story, having to save everyone constantly. Betterman can change his appearence and abilities by eating special seeds. Betterman is his regular form is called "Lamia". Keita Aono

Keita is a 17 year old Sophmore student at Komome High School. Keita is kind of a nerd. He loves TV, video games, and military stuff. He even carries a portable video game around his neck. He can be very silly at times, often bringing humor to the otherwise creepy setting. Keita is what you would call a "Dual Kind". This gives him the ability to pilot a kakuseijin. This is a rare gift. He becomes "Head Driver 07" to KakuseiJin #1. He then joins the organization of "Mode Warp".

Sakura
Sakura is a telepathic person who can see and hear things most people cannot. She can hear Betterman using the "Limpet Chanel". However, Sakura doesn't not have complete control of her body, and she even has to be hooked up to a machine called the "Controller Unit Manage Booth" for 3 or 4 days a week. Using the Goggle equipment, she can help in determining and understanding the Algernon threat. She is always calm, which can sometimes get very creepy. She is a Dual Kind, a unique one even; however, she cannot be a Head Driver because she is too weak physically
